STRiDA Product Question

Can the single Speed models be upgraded to EVO 3 Speeds?

EVO 3 speeds gear system is assembled inside of BB parts on the frame, the specification of EVO frame is different from the other single speed models, so the others can’t be upgraded to EVO 3 speeds.

Is STRiDA rust-proof?

While no bike is completely rustproof, STRiDA is as rustproof as a bicycle can be.
  • Instead of a chain, STRiDA uses a greaseless kevlar belt drive.
  • The entire frame of STRiDA is 7000-series aluminum, which is the same material found in sailboat masts.
  • Moreover, hardware of STRiDA is all either stainless steel or treated steel;cables are all completely encased in protective and lubricated cable housing;
  • Most of the cable is itself inside the frame.
Bitter End Yacht Club in the British Virgin Islands kept two STRiDA at their premise:
After a year in sun and salt air, they reported no significant rusting anywhere on the bike.

How long will the Kevlar belt last?

Kevlar is used to make combat helmets and bulletproof vests. our belt has been high-torque, high-heat, and high-speed tested in automobile engines to last 50,000 miles. that’s a lot of riding. (they can also be found in auto parts stores.)

STRiDA Operating Question

Is single-speed bike like STRiDA a bad choice to climb hills?

Not at all, unless all you do is climb steep hills. STRiDA travels easily across short distances at an average speed of 10-12 mph (15-20 kph). As Paul Taylor, editor and columnist of Financial Times, observed about our bike:
It is quite easy to ride once you get going. gears would help on hills, but i did not find their absence as much of a handicap as i had expected.

How do I fold a STRiDA?

You can refer to the following ways:
  1. The Operating video under our home page.
  2. Goto User Manual and read the operating manual.

Will STRiDA fit in my car trunk (boot)?

STRiDA will fit in your car trunk. If you have a small car trunk, we recommend a STRiDA fitted with our Taper-Lok® folding handlebars, which reduce folded dimensions from ’45 x 20 x 21′ to ’45 x 20 x 11′. As the CEO of zipcar (of npr, cnn, inc. magazine fame) wrote in an email newsletter to all members:
STRiDA bikes fit easily into zipcar trunks (even the beetles) and  are the perfect commuting accessory to reach cars that are not right next to [boston public transit] stops.

Can I take STRiDA on subway, tube, bus, Or train?

Of course !  The strida was designed to be the ultimate intermodal bike. It’s greaseless and can be wheeled, instead of carried. during the summer of 2001, the chicago transit authority in conjunction with mit incorporated the strida into pilot program promoting the folding bike/transit link.

STRiDA Maintence Question

How do I maintain a STRiDA?

While the bike is unusual, most of the components are standard. The beauty of the strida is its simplicity. Few standard parts fail, and even fewer non-standard parts fail. In addition, many common ailments of a standard bike (loose headset, worn chain ring teeth, gear trouble, etc) have been engineered out of the strida. You pedal, you go.

What do you mean by zero maintenance?

Once we brought a STRiDA folding bike to our favorite local shop, one mechanic mused and said:“ Well, it doesn’t leave much for us to work on, does it?” Yet we do recommend that you bring your STRiDA to a professional bike mechanic for a quick checkup once each year.
